Is this game, someone gives a quote, but they blank out the subject of the quote! Naturally, the subject must be guessed.

Example:

"______ the Brown! _______ the Bird-tamer! _______ the Simple! ________ the Fool! Yet he had just the wit to play the part I set him. For you have come, and that was the purpose of my message."

Saruman, talking about....Radagast!

So here's the first one:

"And doubtless the _________ is the older and was wrought in the first building,' said Gimli. 'It is ever so with the things that Men begin: there is a frost in Spring, or a blight in Summer, and they fail of their promise.'"

Gimli is talking about the good stonework of Minas Tirith.

"Nay," he said, "only the _____ of Aulë will be tall enough. In the mountains the Eagles shall house, and hear the voices of those who call upon us. But in the forest shall walk the Shepherds of the _____."

The world is grey, the mountains old,
The forge’s fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in ______ halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till ______ wakes again from sleep.

Thanks! Now, this one isn't from the Lord of the Rings.

"Therefore he sent a wolf to the bridge. But _____ slew it silently. Still Sauron sent others one by one; and one by one _____ took them by the throat and slew them."

Left the board? When was that?

I'll post a new one next week, when I go home, and have access to LotR, unless you'd like to post one, for now.

Early November, I think. So here's a new quote:

"For this is what your folk would call _____, I believe; though I do not understand clearly what they mean; and they seem also to use the same word of the deceits of the Enemy. But this, if you will, is the _____ of Galadriel. Did you not say that you wished to see Elf-_____?"
