There's a big worldwide concert going on right now. So, who's watching?

I'm not. tour de france time trials, and no real reason to watch it for myself. I already contribute to charity on that christian fund thing where it's like 20 bucks a month.

This is too cool listening to Pinkfloyd live!!. Roger Waters back, too. If only the MTV guys would stop talking over the performance.

Ugh, don't you just want to shake those people sometimes?
That said, I am cable-challenged, and AOLmusic doesn't support Firefox, so I'm not watching. I'm sure the part I want to see (Duran Duran playing in Rome!) will end up online at some point in the future. I am patient. :)

Wow. I thought more people would be watching. You don't have to donate to charity or anything just to watch. All the concerts were streaming simultaneously on the internet. There were some great performances. Pink Floyd was on there uncut. There are a lot of bad acts and rap acts, but man, the bright spots definitely outshine them...

Actually, I found out about it about a minute too late. We went out to eat and I was reading the newspaper and it was talking all about Live 8... It said the concert was going on till 7 and so I asked my mom what time it was and it was exactly 7. I really wanted to see it... I did go to http://www.one.org though to sign the declaration. I highly recommend it as it benefits those with AIDS in 3rd World countries.

Callie, the concerts are streaming here: http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now
They will continue streaming for six weeks. That's plenty of time to catch up on things. ;)

Overall, I thought that was one memorable concert. Of course, the American one wasn't all great since it was stacked with rap acts, but the British one was spectacular. They had some great bands during the day, but at night they brought out the heavy hitters. Robbie Williams, The Who, Pink Floyd, and Sir Paul all in sucession to close the show out. The Cure's encore to close out the Paris show was amazing. No synth pedals or keyboards or anything, just straight rock. It was totally cool.

Re-broadcasts are great! I'm catching Brian Wilson performing some of the great Beach Boys hits in Berlin right now. Makes me want to go listen to the originals...

Bere and I are both up late waiting to see the Cure again. Man, I wasn't aware that all these other acts took so long! The French concert is really slow because it takes time to prep the stage for every person. It can't be much longer...

They're playing their new stuff now. After that, they will take a break. All will seem over. But then they shall return in a magnificent encore! JLH and BDC! Woo!

Ok, I know I am going to get blasted for saying this, but I will say it anyway.
Why do we need a concert in order to help others, and why do musicians need a special concert to help others? Why don't we just give the money or time or whatever?
The concert is cool though!

Because it attracts people who wouldn't normally bother to donate, but love to come to concerts.

I think Noel Gallagher (I think it was him - Oasis guy) had a point though with the fact that it cost millions to put on this whole thing, when those millions could have gone to help the poor.

Yeah, but I think the stage and stuff were given for free. I know the people organising it weren't getting paid. I think it's disgusting that some bands wanted to be payed for it. Totally disgusting.

Watched some of it. Some stuff was good, but lots of junk in between. They mostly showed the concerts from London and Philly over here.

AOL has been organizing and beefing up the streams. They've got stuff from the Tokyo concert up now. ;)
A reminder of the link: http://music.channel.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now_global
Up at this bar on the top you can choose which concert you want to be viewing. The global feed shows highlight bits from all the concerts, but you can watch each city's concert individually. ;)

Wow, this is so convenient. The London, Toronto, and Philly concerts are all available free On Demand! Though it takes some effort to get the AOL player working, (I'd recommend trying it on IE) it is totally worth it being able to see the parts of the concerts you enjoy most. :)

Real reality (http://www.osjspm.org/debt.htm)
It may only be one problem. But it's a big problem, and it's good people are doing things against it. And our countries doing stuff? Whatever. History and social evolution prove that the rich countries became rich from exploiting other countries.

Well, the real problem is that none or very little of the money from foreign aid is actually getting to the people who need it. There are dictators in many of the African nations who simply take the money. We are, essentially, giving money to the rich when we give to Africa, at least in many cases. That doesn't mean we stop trying, we just need to find better solutions - money is not the main factor at the moment. The concerts were a great idea, and the cause is great, I just don't think they went about it in the right way.
Anyway, this thread is more for the discussion of the concert itself really, we'll have to create a discussion thread in Amon Lhaw for the political side of Live 8.
