Satellite Maps!

Google now has most of the world mapped out on satellite. It's pretty cool. Starting from scratch, I was able to keep zooming and eventually find my house! It's tons of fun looking around your town with it. :Dc

Are the maps of your area current? Our area seems 1 or 2 years old.

if you're ever interested in owning your own area in aerial photography, buy arcGIS. it's a map layering overlay software that you can use to not only plot out your own points, but also to use in conjunction with GPS positioning. it's available to the public, more as a business tool, but I use it in conjunction with my GIS work that I did in Viriginia for awhile. the Orthographic images (aerial, not satellite, photography) are on the first layer, with the road layer next, then the points of reference. (houses, sheds, business's, landmarks like fire hydrants) it's really nice, I'm thinking about loading up my city's aerial and home listings so I've got an accurate maps on my laptop.

I can see my area, but the zoom does not extend enough to see my house

Well, not much in my area has changed. But from what I can tell, it's pretty recent. :p
