We mods would like to see more participation in the Tolkien forums, and have been trying to think of ways to encourage that.

I think we need to find out why there isn't more participation.

1. Do you participate in the Tolkien forums? If not, why not?

2. What would perk up your interest so that you would be a regular participant in those forums?

It's important, so please take the time to respond. :cc for anyone who does!

I'm a regular participant in those forums because they're the primary reason I came to this board. I enjoy the other forums, but I would not stay if the Tolkien forums were not good.

1. I visit now and then

2. If Tolkien wrote some new books :p

That´s the problem, I think. Those of us who´ve been at forums like this a couple of years have usually debated all things to death. Do balrogs have wings? What happened to the blue wizards? There aren´t many new things to discuss.

I've lost my enthusiasm for posting on Tolkien stuff. That's one reason why I got rid of the Tolkien forum at my board. (That and the fact that no one else was posting in it either. :/: )

1. I don't visit the Tolkein forums, simply because I don't have very much time.
2. Having more time to read more Tolkein

My non-participation in the forums (besides the Read-along) stems mainly from my overabundance of homework, work and all that kind of stuff that goes along with being a college nursing student. I also want to do tons of different things all at the same time...like read, watch TV, cross stitch, write fiction etc...
Also, I do feel a little overwhelmed in some of the threads (or did when I visited the forums) because although I do love Tolkein, I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to spend reading Tolkein and things about Tolkein...to learn more.

I'm rambling so I'll leave it at this for now.

1. Not recently.

2. Same reason as Base. Unless there are some new topics for discussion that seemed to have been overlooked, I've lost interest in discussing the same things time and time again...

1. Yes, as of late, I post muchly in the Tolkien forums.
2. The reason I post more there now is because I just decided to go there first, instead of to the Vortex or Harrowdale, first. Somehow I have found it actually much more fulfilling than simply chatting about nothing, as everyone seems to do, here. I thought that I had lost my interest, for a while, but simply posting there has renewed my interest. So post.

1. I post there, but should post more
2. Hard to say, lord knows I've spent years around these boards and its hard to think of something new to discuss

I think that's the main reason I have burnout too, frankly. I am not a chatty person anyway, and have much trouble thinking of a Tolkien topic that hasn't been done to death.

1) No, I don't. Because I know from previous experience at different boards I just get shouted at for one small mistake and get made to feel stupid and illiterate. And if I post a contraversial opinion I will get hammered from all sides by zealots who think I'm the whore of babylon for expression an opinion different from the norm. I join Tolkein boards because I know I will have a common interest with the people on it and the people tend to be more intelligent and more interesting to talk to than normal people.

2) To be totally honest, meaning no disrespect, I don't think anything would make me post on the forums. I like meaningless chat, especially at this stressfull point in my educational career.

I have just found the boards and just getting use to them. I like the set up and will be back often.

It seems to me that we have come close to exhausting the depths of what can be said about these wondeful books. I enjoy the read-along and would like to see it continue, but I think that at some point ther is nothing more to say.

We can always go through the balrogs and wings debate again...

Possibly, we've added some new faces since the last time.

Or we could discuss the nature of destiny or even what mixing Elf and human lineage does.

1. I do not post on Tolkien forum but I often check them (Although I like LotR I do not consider myself an expert!)
2. I also wish I had more time to re-read the books

I'll begin to post more. My biggest thing is that I haven't read the books in a while, or even watched the movies, or even listened to the soundtrack (!) lately. As much as I love Tolkien, there are other things holding my interest more at the current moment. Still, I have been meaning to get back into the swing of Tolkien, so I think it would help me to start posting there more often. Then I need to finish The Silmarillion...
