View Full Version : What ever happened to...?

Theodred
February 15th, 2004, 02:07 AM
This thread is to forever immortalize the board members of the past who are no longer with us by discussing their posts made long ago and where they might be now.

What ever happened to Eriol? He really put a lot of effort into all of his posts. Did he just stop coming, or did he give a reason to leave? Maybe we can contact him or something.

What happened to Eru? She has been absent a while now. She was very knowlegable. :)

Theodred
February 15th, 2004, 01:20 PM
Yes Eru and Eriol, two very knowledgeable citizens of Rohan. We should definitely make a list of people to try to contact. :)

Azrael
February 15th, 2004, 01:27 PM
hmm, I know that Eru had very little time for various boards way back when, at least... but haven't seen/heard anything from her lately... could check to see if she's posted at some other boards lately, though...

Theodred
February 15th, 2004, 02:00 PM
That'd be good if you could Manwe.

What ever happened to Keyser Soze reborn? He was an strange character with often strange ideas, but he was very funny and interesting to listen to. :)

Azrael
February 15th, 2004, 02:23 PM
Eru hadn't posted in a long time at any of the other boards I know of that she used to post at...

Sounds like some interesting past members you have had! ;)

Theodred
February 15th, 2004, 05:34 PM
That's for sure! I wonder what happened to Anshu? He's got to be the only person who has formally resigned a moderator spot. He posted a lot, then he just decided to go, I'm not really sure why. But he was also quite a character. He had the nerve to use chatroom lingo on a civilized Tolkien board, which often made his posts seem a little immature, but he had some interesting opinions about things.

Hrm, who else is missing? Irid hasn't been here in awhile has she?

Theodred
February 15th, 2004, 11:19 PM
No Irid hasn't been here in a while either. Sam's in the army, so at least he's accounted for. Eldarion usually only shows up on school holidays, and he's absent for the rest of the time. I tried e-mailing him, but I haven't got a response yet. Elerrina's been gone for a while, she was pretty fun, and we haven't seen generaltacticus in a few months. Then there's buueats who posted at a rate faster than Barahir before disappearing after a few weeks. There was a bunch of the Tolkien Realm/Discussion Board crowd here that Turambar says are MIA, like semgol, WargWolf, and Uri the Sun Goddess, but there are also some people who used to post here who have just decided to post over at Valinor like Heir of Turin and Randalf. There's also Eldarion's Irish friends Annatar and Khamul who have been missing for a while, and Eowynn (with two 'n's). I could go on for a while. So many people are gone. :(

Eowynn is still on Ezboard, I saw her over at Lugburz a couple or three weeks ago. She's just not been here.

Theodred
February 17th, 2004, 03:21 PM
Yeah, while searching around for other Tolkien boards just now, I came across her and nukapai at a place called Morgoth's Lair.

Barahir
February 17th, 2004, 10:42 PM
I visited that place. Not too bad... for a dark forum, that is.

Theodred
February 17th, 2004, 10:50 PM
Especially for one dedicated to the darkest being of all. :)

I don't like visiting boards with dark color schemes though. It hurts my eyes. That's why I keep this place bright. :lolc

Barahir
February 17th, 2004, 10:52 PM
That's because if you have a dark background, you need to have white, or really light letters, and so there's a big contrast. This results in eyes that are hurting (uh, sorry, but I couldn't find any way to word it better).

Theodred

That's why the layout here nicely conforms to give you the best viewing experience possible. (Really cheesy ad rip-off)

It seems that after Irid found a boyfriend, she suddenly disappeared. She left a post a few months back.

I ran into Randalf son of Gandalf at another site last year, but he got miffed after our little film rants and soon left.

Ellerina is probably pretty busy in college. I e-mailed her last year, but she never returned a message. She was my Beatle-buddy.

Anshu...I found his personal website on the web a while back, but it looked as though it hadn't been updated.

But who could forget (drum roll please...).....

hurley!

Theodred
February 27th, 2004, 12:41 AM
Ah yes, one who will never be returning to our fair land. Randalf was posting at the Shores of Valinor as recently as last December, though he has disappeared of late...

I remember that he started a forum on Pop culture. Stinky hurley invaded and the forum fell apart soon after.:\

I still remember the announcement: "Randalf Nukes Fantasmia"!

:lolc I always wished that he hadn't of done that. It was a fun forum. He should have given it a little longer.:\

It is I, Heir of Turin, returned from the abyss!!

I remember quite a few of the folks you are talking about. I think Randalf stops posting when he goes back to school, or something to that degree. As for the others, I have no idea.

it's so sad when people leave boards but they'll come back, they always do :)

A very intriguing person. Go to the archives or the Vortex and flip back a few pages, and you may find some of his posts...

What ever happened to fingolfin jones? :(

Theodred

He got busy I suppose. We've all been wondering, but we haven't bothered bringing up old threads to state our thoughts...

What happened to Eldarion?
Now that I would like to know... probably busy with much school, though. :(

But -m- hasnt been on for a while.
Yeah, I know. I suppose she's still getting settled into her new environment. I wouldn't know, though, since I've never moved to a new home.

And Raven's gone, apparently for good. Who knows if Rando will ever come back. It's doubtful, though. Let's see... what about Louisiana Lady?

Theodred
January 11th, 2005, 05:47 PM
Or Arveleg! Or Snake...

Barahir
January 13th, 2005, 04:00 PM
Oh man... yeah, I forgot about Arveleg. Well, he kind of stopped coming after we moved. He's still active on his ezboard account, though, is he not? We ought to email him, or something...

And Snake. I wonder about him. He only made somewhere around 25 posts or so. However, he did join the RPG.

Theodred

Which amounts to something in his relatively short sojourn here...

Or Trotter? Or Calandriel? {sigh}

I sent an e-mail out to all the members of my board encourageing those that haven't been there in a while to stop by and post some time. Some of you here are registered at my place, so you got that same e-mail.

But a few of the names you guys have mentioned in this thread were registered at my board, so maybe they'll show up there. :cool

Barahir

At least fingolfin has come back, now.

-m- is still MIA.

Calandriel posts in Mathoms that I know of - musical instruments. So we need more music-related threads.

What happened to Damaring? I talked to her on MSN and she said we stopped discussing things that interested her, basically. Not that Rohan is a bad place, but the discussion doesn't really fit her anymore. And how could I blame her? I mean, all Rohan is is a bunch of nonsensical fluff, anymore. We need to start thinking about what we post. In fact, that should help encourage other people to stay here - more intelligent people, that is, rather than 13 year old kids who want to use Rohan like an MSN session.

Let's see... Rando is long gone. Turin never comes around but to say "SoV is still here, from time to time, when we're not having server problems."

What about Manwe?

Has Lotheriel been around much, lately? I don't recall seeing her very often...

My cousin, Nessa, is busy with college.

Raven left in an angry fit, after Rando, if I remember correctly.

Flamingo just kind of stopped coming. She's very busy with the IB program, and such. And I don't think she's as interested as she once was, with Rohan. Once again... can't blame her really.

Hmm... anyone else?

fingolfin jones
February 4th, 2006, 02:55 PM
Lothiriel has been online recently from time to time but doesn't post much. Ironically, I left Rohan in an angry fit because of Raven. Funny how things seem to go around in circles.

I've been on msn with both Irid and Gen' recently. Irid will not be coming back as she is too busy with school and boyfriend. Gen' was in transistion and without a reliable internet connection. She said that she may return after she gets a broadband setup.

Ellie just left a few posts in the Emnets section. She said that she will post some more poetry after her exams.

Manwe hasn't really visited his own forum recently as far as I can tell. I miss discussing football with him.

I don't know if 'non-sensical' posts are the problem, Bara', as we have designated areas for those kinds of things, and if people don't like them, they just don't need to go there. So I can't see that as an excuse. People who want to argue politics, can go to Amon Lhaw, plus there is a specific area for religion, and I rarely see topics in those 2 sections deviate from the intended subject matter. True, things get off-topic in the other serious sections, but even those of us that do go off-topic tend to correct ourselves, especially when someone starts to discuss the original topic again. In Harrowdale, even when we do go off-topic, there are still rational conversations going on. If a thread is titled "How is your day?", it's obviously going to have diverse talk involved, since people wil lask "why" and "who" type questions. If it's "MLB", it will stay specifically about baseball.

My opinion is that there are some pretty obvious cliches here at Rohan. Be it that they are good friends with someone in RL, or they spend every waking minute on msn with these people, it's fairly obvious to me that they will only answer to a few specific people. I've seen some snobbishness on a few peoples parts, as well. I can't for the life of me figure out why they post in those sections if they hate what they see there. :confused

Barahir
February 4th, 2006, 03:07 PM
Well, it's not so much being off topic that's the problem so much as the topics themselves that are the problem. We need to encourage something more intelligent to come out of the Vortex. Like the top 5s, for example, or even what you're listening to - those are examples of things that really should go to the Fluffer's lodge.

That and the fact that Rohan is almost entirely "general discussion" at this point. Most of us don't go to anything other than the Vortex and Harrowdale, with an occasional visit to the Angrenost to vote on some poll that came up. But there's so much more to it than that. If we would only take advantage of it and use the board for more than what we can get out of any other board.

Maybe we could *gasp!* try to talk about what we all came here to discuss, in the first place? Maybe at least bring it up from time to time? Nah, Tolkien's outdated. We've already covered everything there is to know about him and all of his works. I'm sure we all remember every detail from our most recent reading of Lord of the Rings, right?

I hear you. I've been trying to get the other 75% of the members here to post in Helms Deep, but to no avail. Do they feel intimidated posting down there? Who knows. They should realize that I'm probably the dumbest guy here (well, I can think of a few others...) when it comes to discussing Tolkien. My stickied thread in The Vortex was ignored, except the day that DoM complained about there being too may stickied threads.

Besides the Vortex, Fluffer's Lodge is probably the most popular forum. I guess that there is really nothing that we can do about that. Posts don't count towards your total down there (I still don't understand why), and people continue to flood that forum. I joked to someone once that I feel as id my brain is in use more often in that section than any other.:p

You know who I miss (bringing the thread back on topic) Obs...I miss him a lot. He was great. Used to be really genuine. If he didn't like someone he didn't go and flirt with them on the board or whatever, he'd not talk to them. And he'd make me giggle. Plus he promised one time to take me out to lunch.

Lothiriel is extremely busy with college, almost too busy to spend time with dear ole dad, so she better not post that often here...lol

I believe I'm still in and out, like I've been for a decent amount of time. and I wouldn't really want Flamingo to get back in to this board unless she got out of IB, because she has already bet everything save her sanity on Completing IB, and does not need a distraction from such.

As for the vortex, I enjoy it. we all consider it bad and fluff, but places like that get the playful spirit out of us. instead of arguing, debating, discussing, and incubating ideas, we all have fun, get a few chuckles out, spur large ongoing conversations that are enjoyable to continue, even if they are between only a couple of people. I've noticed that some do not like this because it seems as though they are trying to blast their post count into orbit, which may be the case...but normal conversation between friends rarely sticks to the topic.

fingolfin jones
February 5th, 2006, 04:19 PM
:lol You must have heard a conversation between me and my friends lately, Sisko'. We never stay on topic in RL either.:p I have no problem with the Vortex, for it serves it's purpose. If a new person signs up, and blames the Vortex as the reason that they are leaving, then they need to go down to Helms Deep and post! There are 3 of us trying to continue the legacy. :)

Speaking of which, Sisko'....I've been trying to get your attention about a small ezboard gaming forum that will soon be switching to VB. The owner, Gidget needs a moderator.

Flamingo is doing what? I don't know what IB is. :P

Well...if anyone knows where Eru is...or if they were just another user account for a regular member...please get her back here. She was great, regardless if it was really Theo or Sam. :lol

Well, if Turin isn't posting at SoV, where is he posting at? I'm thinking that, 'yep', alot of people have gotten burned out on Tolkien. Maybe a majority of them were new to the 'franchise', and don't really have an interest in the books?

Heh...I'm back and PDA is right...very busy w/school but I'm back in the forum mood (I wasn't for a few months)...if I had time I'd post in the Tolkien forums, I love Tolkein! (heh...no really) but seriously I'm reading LotR at least twice a year now (I read it while I dry my hair ;) )
