Is anyone else a hockey fan? I know Bere is! ;)
Right now my Bruins are only 2 points out of first place in the Northeast Division, and Bere's Senators are a point behind us. :b

Only because we had 13 players missing from the second last game (against Toronto) due to injuries/flu bug. I'm not joking either. :sick
Anyone else here hate Toronto? :cool

They're all right, I don't hold a grudge against them. But Montreal...:evil

Don't hate Toronto, even though I'm in Ottawa. I don't actually care what team wins, but I cheer for Ottawa to bug my boyfriend, who is a Toronto fan. Or whoever else Toronto is playing.

Any predictions for the playoffs yet?
Arathorn III
February 13th, 2004, 09:31 PM
Trust me, Toronto is a very annoying team. They slash, beat, hook, and play dirty, not allowing more skilled players to play. That's not hockey. They do have a selection of very good players who are not goons - Sundin, Kaberle, Mogilny, Nolan. Ottawa can check better though, and Chris Neil can take on Domi anyday. :)
But are you seriously from Ottawa, Damaring? You're the first on Rohan who is, besides me and Balin! :Dc
Arathorn III

Stratford! That's a really cool town. I've been there a couple times.
Personally I find Ottawa dull and uninteresting, but it is home, and I mostly only do dull things when I'm in town. :tongue

Any Calgary fans out there? I kinda like them, don't know why. There's up by 1 right now against Anaheim after 1 Period. :)

Arathorn III
February 14th, 2004, 06:10 PM
I personally like to watch Edmonton in the playoffs. They are a really exciting team to watch. Those Edmonton-Dallas series were classics. :)
Theodred
February 14th, 2004, 06:16 PM
Speaking of Dallas, what's your opinion of hockey teams in the south? There really aren't as many fans down there, most people go to games to watch the fights. But some cities are starting to get loyal fan bases like Anaheim and Dallas.
Arathorn III
February 14th, 2004, 06:22 PM
My opinion? I think you're right about the fans. All these teams moved south for the money. The percentage of real hockey fans are in Canada and Northeastern USA, but those teams can't afford the players. The worst thing about teams in the south of course is the fact that the ice sucks, because it's too warm. :)

I remember that I was sad when the Hartford Whalers moved to Carolina. (Two states represented by one word, I wonder if there will ever be teams from Dakota? :brow ) Hartford is probably never going to have a professional sports team again. :(

Tonight was the worst game I've seen. And Domi injured Bondra checking boarding him. Toronto took the puck and scored while Bondra was lying on the ice. The Sens played awful anyway though, so can't blame the refs too much.
They will play better in the playoffs though. :)

Was it Buffalo or New Jersey who were doing real good a few years ago. I think that one of them made it all the way to the Stanley Cup?
Arathorn III
December 1st, 2005, 04:35 PM
New Jersey...they beat Ottawa out in the Semi's for it too...in the last minute of game 7...the puck sneaked past Wade Redden's skate with an inch to spare, onto the stick of that Devil...
That play haunts me more than any other...except perhaps St. Louis' OT goal in Game 6 last year against Calgary...

Hey, all of those new teams in the US...I must have missed it when teams left Hartford and waht not. Could you tell me where the new teams used to play at. Maybe the moves in the past 5 years?
Arathorn III
December 1st, 2005, 06:08 PM
Um...who moved? Well, Minnesota to Dallas, but that was awhile ago - Quebec to Colorado..also long ago. Hartford went to Carolina (Hurricanes are one of two teams to beat Ottawa this year, and they did it twice - Staal is on fire). Winnipeg became Phoenix, right? Columbus just happened...so did Minnesota (the Wild). Then there is Nashville...um...I think they just happened too...

I know that Bere knows part of this, but the Ottawa pizza chain named Pizza Pizza gives out a free slice of pizza if the Senators score 5 goals or more in a game at home. All you have to do is go to one of the pizza places and give them your ticket, and boom, a free slice of pizza of your choice in your hands. I have been lucky enough to do this a few times. Now, since the Sens are kicking hard this year, someone calculated how much of a tab Pizza Pizza will pick up from the Senators. By the end of the year, if the Sens keep up like this, Pizza Pizza will have a $1.4 million canadian tab coming from the Senators franchise. Thats a lot of 5 or more goal games, and a lot of dough.
Arathorn III
December 7th, 2005, 12:08 PM

Our basketball teams the Blazers has something similar to that. They give everyone at the game a free Taco Bell Chalupa coupon if they score 100 points. Needless to say, they've saved alot of money this year.

Why has Ottawa played so many less games than everyone else? They've only played 25 and alot of other teams are up to 30, with the Rangers at 31. Ouch, lost a heartbreaker to the Canucks tonight.
